GapKids first-ever Documentary Film.
The Challenge : Back-to-School is the most competitive, high-volume retail season for children's apparel, with major brands fighting for market share on price and product alone. To cut through the noise, Gap needed to shift the conversation from transactional retail to deep emotional brand value.
Our Insight : We recognized that the term "Back-to-School" is inherently ironic; there is nothing backward about it. It is entirely about moving forward.
Creative Strategy : To elevate Gap above traditional product advertising, we launched the brand's first-ever emotional documentary film. Celebrating the real, unsung heroes that are truly dressing our kids, our documentary film titled “It Takes a Village”
The Launch : To match the emotional scale of the narrative, we transitioned GapKids from traditional commercial screens to the cinema. In collaboration with cultural figures—including Wonder author R.J. Palacio and actor Jacob Tremblay—we secured a nationwide theatrical release. Timed perfectly with the Hollywood debut of the feature film Wonder, this theatrical activation amplified our reach, maximized media impressions, and created an unforgettable cinematic experience that established GapKids as a champion of progress and community.
